Hayden is a beautiful small town and just a 30 minute drive West of Steamboat Springs on HWY 40. Although a very close knit community the town is growing rapidly with new construction in neighborhoods and industrail parks. Hayden is no longer just the bedroom community of Steamboat. It is a viable growing town made up of long time ranchers and new folks that want to live the western dream of raising a family in small town america. If you want to live, work, and play in the same area - just come home to Hayden, Colorado.
Historic Information below was found on the Hayden School District Web Site:
Nestled in the middle of the beautiful Yampa River Valley, Hayden was founded in 1876, and named for the notable F.V. Hayden who surveyed so many areas in the West. Ranching, agriculture and coal mining soon established Hayden as a commercial center for the valley and continues to be a viable aspect to our economy. Routt County, which extended for almost 200 miles east to west, was split in 1911, and the dynamic future which the townspeople had foreseen evaporated. The arrival of the railroad in 1913, brought a breath of life to the community, in addition to a beautiful brick depot building. But still, the vision of a great center of commerce kept eluding the little town.
Today, the townspeople strive not to promote rapid growth but instead, they are attempting to maintain the town's Western harm and vitality. The unique fascination of this rural town is captured in the flavor of its distinctive history. The town's delightful Walnut Street is alive with modern-day commerce set in buildings that look very much as they did 100 years ago. In March of 2006, the town celebrated its 100th birthday as a municipality.
Hayden Schools offer an extensive Preschool through 12th grade curriculum with college courses available to students through Colorado Northwest Community College. The Hayden School District is fully accredited by the Colorado Department of Education.
